The Pizza Luce Story

It started in 1993 with a wood-fired oven, a fierce love of flavor, and a corner spot on Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis. Founder David Schneider wanted to create more than a pizza place — he wanted a neighborhood gathering spot where bold tastes and inclusive culture could coexist under the same roof.

The name "Luce" — Italian for "light" — reflects our philosophy. We bring light to classic recipes through imaginative toppings, house-made sauces, and a genuine commitment to quality. From our signature Chicken Carbonara Pizza to our fan-favorite Taco pizza, every item on our menu is crafted with intention.

Over three decades, we've grown to multiple locations across the Twin Cities, but our spirit hasn't changed: bold flavors, warm hospitality, and a belief that the best pizza is the one made with heart.

From a single oven to a Twin Cities institution — here's how Pizza Luce grew from a bold idea into a beloved legend.

1993

The First Flame

David Schneider opens the original Pizza Luce on Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis. The wood-fired oven and unconventional toppings immediately attract a loyal following of food adventurers and neighborhood regulars.

1998

Downtown Expansion

After five years of packed tables and rave reviews, Pizza Luce opens its second location in downtown Minneapolis — bringing bold craft pizza to the city's heart and late-night dining scene.

2004

Community Art Program

Pizza Luce launches its signature community art program, rotating local artist exhibitions in all locations. The walls become canvases, and the restaurant deepens its roots as a cultural hub in Minneapolis.

2009

Delivery Goes City-Wide

Expanding delivery zones to cover all major Minneapolis neighborhoods. Customers can now enjoy signature pizzas, hoagies, and salads delivered hot to their doors — setting a new standard for local delivery service.

2015

Vegan & GF Revolution

Pizza Luce introduces a fully expanded vegan and gluten-free menu, becoming one of the Twin Cities' most inclusive dining destinations. Dairy-free cheese, cauliflower crusts, and plant-based proteins transform the menu.

2020

Community Through Crisis

During a challenging year for Minneapolis, Pizza Luce doubles down on community support — feeding frontline workers, partnering with local nonprofits, and keeping neighborhood spirits high with contactless delivery and curbside pickup.

2024

30 Years Strong

Celebrating over three decades of bold pizza, Pizza Luce launches a new seasonal menu, renovates the flagship Lyndale location, and earns "Best of Twin Cities" honors — proving the best is yet to come.
